These antique beads are excavated in Mali and Afghanistan, they were traditionally buried under the threshold of the home and places of worship for protection and good luck. Blue glass was highly prized.
The Malian beads (nila or djenne beads) are Roman period, and the Afghan ones are typically at least 200-300 years old.
We have threaded them up with antique Saharan and Indian silver amulets and beads too.
The patina on the beads is beautiful, they are aged and frosted by generations of wear and being in the ground like sea glass !
